G. Pico J. is a figurative painter from the Caribbean, currently living in Switzerland. With an academic background in Hispanic American literature, civilization, and arts, Pico J. brings a deep cultural and intellectual understanding into his works. This academic experience allows him to weave cultural and intellectual narratives into his creations, thus enhancing the emotional and intellectual depth of his works. His artistic journey began with an intense engagement with Picasso’s cubism, which led him to a deeper exploration of deconstructed figurative art in 3D. However, Pico J. believes that his true interest lies not in simply painting characters, but in capturing emotions, particularly through the gaze, which exudes a deep, human empathy. The gaze is the central element of his works, as it has the potential to convey raw emotions and establish a direct connection with the viewer. In his work, he merges the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation, challenging the traditional categories of contemporary art. Pico J.'s works are not only visual representations but also transformations of materials destined to decay. He uses recycled materials like paper and cardboard, which he transforms into three-dimensional reliefs. These reliefs are treated with eco-friendly resin, giving them exceptional durability and complexity. The materials themselves become carriers of new life, symbolizing resilience and survival in a fleeting world. Another remarkable feature of his works is the integration of living elements like plants. Some of these plants remain in the artwork for months or longer, allowing the artwork to continuously change and offer a dynamic, evolving experience for the viewer. Through this integration of nature and art, the artist challenges traditional boundaries of art and creates a multidimensional, sensory experience. In his work "Chained by Reflection," the theme of inner captivity and self-reflection is explored, intensified by the portrayal of a seemingly shackled character. The formal language in "Contemplation of Républic Platon" can be linked to the philosophical engagement of antiquity, while "Freedom by Yourself" addresses the quest for freedom and self-determination. "Gendera" showcases the complexity of identity and gender by questioning traditional representations of figures and achieving a deeper emotional readability. "Insomnia" and "Le Temps d'un Duc" reflect an intense engagement with existential themes such as insomnia and perception of time, visualized in distorted, fragmented figures and vivid colors. G. Pico J. is an artist who works with a unique, interdisciplinary approach to art. Art for him becomes a powerful, transformative experience that not only changes the viewer’s perception but also their relationship with the environment and time.
