Description
LABOH is an Italian artist, born in 1975 in Turin. Although the creative impulse has accompanied her since childhood and drawing was a silent refuge for her, her artistic career only emerged consciously in adulthood as an uncontrollable outburst. She adopted the artist name LABOH and enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. Her artistic practice stems from instinct, emotional urgency, and the desire for connection with the viewer. She does not seek technical perfection or decorative effects, but rather a genuine, inwardly pulsing expression. Her works are expressive, direct, often imbued with raw physicality, moving between dramatic figuration and gestural abstraction, visibly influenced by Fauvism, Expressionism, and the suggestive language of photography. The female body plays a central role in her work, particularly her own. The self-portrait is for her a means of reconnection and inner centering. Her nudes are not eroticized, but symbolic. They represent the emptying of the self, vulnerability, inner silence, and the necessity of self-reconstruction. Clothing, when present, refers to visual obsessions from her previous work in fashion design. The gaze of her figures — always intense and direct — becomes a channel of dialogue with the viewer, a quiet, intimate point of connection that goes beyond the surface of the image. LABOH works with watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media on cotton paper, canvas, or special substrates such as metal paper. Her painterly gesture is free — sometimes raw and powerful, sometimes lyrical and sensitive — but always permeated with emotion and meaning. Photography plays a central role in her creative process. Images by Peter Lindbergh, Paolo Roversi, or Giovanni Gastel often serve as starting points for profound visual transformation. Painting-wise, she feels connected to artists like Egon Schiele, Francis Bacon, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Keith Haring. LABOH regularly participates in prestigious exhibitions in Pontremoli, Milan, and Turin. She has also been present at Milan Design Week. In 2025 she will continue her exhibition activities with new projects in Turin and Milan and expand her presence with international engagements. In September, she will take part in the Salon International d’Art Contemporain in Paris, and in October she will exhibit at ARTMUC in Munich. In recent years, she has also begun working with live painting performances. In these performances, the creative process itself becomes part of the artwork. More than mere images, LABOH creates presence. Her works are mirrors, windows, emotional portals. They not only reveal who she is, but also something about those who behold them.
